jobsharepartners.com: Why job share

What is job sharing?

Job sharing involves dividing a single full-time job between two people who share the responsibilities, pay and benefits.

Work-Life Balance

It’s not hard to see the advantages of cutting down on working hours and going part-time. Many of us want to create a better work-life balance in order to share parenting responsibilities, create more time for outside interests and/or training, or simply to ease the stress of working and looking after children.

But why is job-sharing more attractive than regular part-time work?

  • Better Pay - the average hourly earnings of women who work part-time are just 75% of those of female full-time workers.
  • More Interesting Work – moving into part-time work often means accepting work at a lower level. This not only means worse pay, but also less interesting work.
  • Greater availability – take a look in your local paper. Only a fraction of those jobs advertised on the "Situations Vacant" pages will be part-time.
  • Less Hours – most part-time jobs seem to be only a few hours less per week than full-time. And you are often expected to carry out all the work of a full-time job within those hours.

But, in the past, part-time work has largely been associated with low grade jobs with low pay and low status. So, with more and more employers offering the option of job sharing, or, at the very least, prepared to consider it, it seems to be the solution we have been looking for!

Once you have made the decision to go down the job-share route, your first initial hurdle will be finding someone to share a job with. This is where jobsharepartners.com can help!
